Viña del Mar Festival announces cancellation of Mexican artist Peso Pluma
CNN Spanish reported on Thursday night that the Viña del Mar Festival in Chile announced the surprising cancellation of Mexican artist Peso Pluma’s participation in the international music competition. The festival organization stated that Peso Pluma will not be able to perform as planned on March 1, and will also cancel his concerts in Asunción and Lima due to personal reasons.
In a statement, the production of the contest expressed regret over the situation, emphasizing their strong commitment to the health and well-being of all involved in the festival. The organization reassured that the integrity of people is their main priority.
Peso Pluma’s office also released a statement, expressing hope to return to the territories soon to provide a deserving experience for his fans. In place of Peso Pluma, the festival will feature Argentine rapper and freestyler Trueno, who will close the day on the Quinta Vergara stage on March 1.
The announcement of Peso Pluma’s visit had sparked controversy among Chilean authorities in the preceding months. The National Television of Chile (TVN) had requested the organization to cancel the invitation, while the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, had voiced concerns about drug culture and sexism.
Despite the cancellation, the Viña del Mar Festival, scheduled from February 25 to March 1, will showcase performances by notable artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Manuel Turizo, Andrea Bocelli, Miranda!, and more.
