The 43rd edition of the OroArezzo exhibition, organized by the Ieg trade fair company (the same as VicenzaOro) from 11 to 14 May, opens with eyes focused on gold prices, which in recent days have exceeded 2,400 dollars an ounce. There will be 370 brands on display (an increase compared to the 2023 edition, when there were 350): 240 are gold and jewelery companies, semi-finished products and components, precious and semi-precious stones; 63 are manufacturers of machines for the goldsmith sector; 48 are ready sellers, the so-called cash&carry. Arezzo dominates the exhibition front with more than 120 brands displaying their precious collections.

The Arezzo gold district is coming off a brilliant 2023, which saw exports reach 3.5 billion euros (3,492 million) with a growth of 9.4%: it means moving ahead compared to the other two districts of Vicenza ( 2.2 billion exports 2023, +2%) and Valenza (1,888 million, +8.7%). At an Italian level, the gold sector achieved exports of 9.2 billion euros in 2023, up 12.1% despite the global demand for gold jewelery remaining stable (just under 2,100 tonnes).

The Turkey boom flies through the district

Arezzo’s growth can be explained by a new boom, that of Turkey, which in 2023 became, for the first time, the most important outlet market in the Tuscan district with 761 million euros of purchases (more than double the previous year). Turkey has overtaken the United Arab Emirates (which fell by 6.1% to 685 million), Arezzo’s traditional strong partner. The show starts with enthusiasm: «During the days of the fair we will understand how the market will have reacted to the fluctuation in the price of raw materials in the last period, and whether the increases will be absorbed», says Mauro Benvenuto, president of Orafi Cna Toscana. «Oro Arezzo is returning to the numbers of 2019 – adds Giordana Giordini, president of Confindustria Federorafi Toscana – Ieg has based its work on the growth of OroArezzo, starting from the profiling of buyers carried out together with Ice Agenzia and the companies».
