Ovs raises its decarbonisation targets for 2030 and confirms its leadership in sustainability

When one of the few Italian fashion “billion euros companies” (actually by now close to a billion euros in turnover) traces the way, whatever the theme, the effect is almost always on the entire supply chain. The Ovs group, led by Stefano Beraldo and which in Italy is a leader in women’s, men’s and children’s clothing with one market share, which has grown steadily in recent years and has exceeded 9.3%, has just set decarbonisation goals that are even more ambitious than those already set. Ovs had already reduced emissions (scope 1 and 2) by 85% between 2017 and 2019 and is committed to achieving a further reduction of 46.2% (scope 1, 2, 3) by 2030.

External certification

The objectives were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) a global organization born from the collaboration between Climate Disclosure Project, Global Compact, World Resources Institute and WWF that certifies the public commitment by companies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with a scientific approach, in line with the global target of limiting ” temperature rise below 1.5 ° C, established by the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.

Taking responsability

«Our sector is responsible for about 10% of global emissions that cause the climate crisis, explains Simone Colombo, head of corporate sustainability at Ovs -. It is therefore necessary to adopt solutions that help reduce the impact of our business. This is why we opted for a scientific approach, defining a decarbonization plan based on objectives approved by SBTi that supports our choices of more sustainable materials and production processes with less impact ».

Among the tools that will be used, the increase in the use of more sustainable materials and production processes with a lower environmental impact, the use of photovoltaic solar systems to improve energy efficiency, collaboration with its suppliers in the adoption of new low-emission technologies and renewable energy sources.
