(CNN) –– Comedian and actor Richard Lewis, known for his sharp humor and wit on shows like “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Anything but Love,” has passed away at the age of 76, his publicist Jeff Abraham confirmed.
According to Abraham, Lewis died “peacefully” at his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday night after suffering a heart attack. The beloved comedian had revealed in April 2023 that he had been living with Parkinson’s disease.
Lewis first rose to fame after making his debut on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” in 1974, becoming a fixture in the late-night comedy scene. He later gained widespread recognition for his recurring role on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” where he played a fictionalized version of himself alongside his close friend Larry David.
Throughout his career, Lewis also ventured into acting, starring in various film and television projects such as “Anything but Love” alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, Mel Brooks’ “Robin Hood: Men in Tights,” and the drama “Drunks.”
In a statement, HBO praised Lewis’ comedic talent, calling him a “genius” and expressing their condolences to his family, friends, and fans. Lewis’ wife, Joyce Lapinsky, also thanked everyone for their support and requested privacy during this difficult time.
Richard Lewis will always be remembered for his unparalleled humor and contributions to the entertainment industry.
