One million and eight hundred thousand euros. This is the sum obtained from the strategic fund of the Liguria Region to redevelop some parts of the Chiabrera theater. Among these, the foyer and the internal bar will be renovated and will be made accessible with access to the square also from the outside. The works will start by the end of June. There are two lots of intervention. A first lot of 1.2 million will see a second one of 640 thousand euros added in 2023. The square and other rooms of the theater will also be rearranged. The floor above will be reached by an elevator.
There will be no problems organizing and carrying out the next autumn winter theater season. For the redevelopment of the theater and square, Pilomat funds will also be used for the weekly market. Satisfaction was expressed by the mayor Marco Russo and by the councilors Marco Scajola and Ilaria Cavo for the Liguria Region and the councilors Negro and Becco for the Municipality.
“An important project that enhances one of the most important and beautiful historical theaters in Liguria – explains the regional councilor for urban planning Marco Scajola – The works will begin by the end of June 2022 and as a Region we considered it important to waive the deadline originally foreseen, in light of the complexity of the procedure and the difficulties encountered in obtaining authorizations due to the pandemic. Liguria Region has allocated 1.2 million euros of the Strategic Fund for the construction of the works, out of a total cost of 1.5 million euros, an important figure that will allow the realization of a first batch of interventions. Furthermore, the municipal administration has decided to request the reassignment of the sums initially foreseen for the intervention of accommodation and technological innovation of the market area of the center, as the market will be moved, for the construction of a second lot to enhance the theater. Chiabrera and the environmental redevelopment of Piazza Diaz. Therefore, the Liguria Region will allocate an additional 640 thousand euros for the realization of the project in the course of 2023, for a total of 1.8 million euros for the enhancement of a prestigious historic building and a central area of the city. Concrete actions to redevelop the city and enhance a place that represents Ligurian history and culture ».
“This is a very important intervention that arises from the need to invest the strategic fund for culture and which demonstrates a great interest in the territory and its cultural institutions – said the regional councilor for Culture Ilaria Cavo – Making the theater with its square and breaking down the architectural barriers are all improvements that support the same theatrical activity, taking into account that this is the only traditional theater in our region, both for the opera with the Opera Giocosa, and for the symphonic. These resources will also be used to reuse spaces such as those of the ‘Ridotto’ of the theater, which are currently not open and which will be able to give new strength and be put at the service of countless activities. Over the years, the Chiabrera programming has been able to combine multiple titles and programs linked to prose and important events in Liguria such as Voices in the Shadow, an appointment that has accompanied the history of theater. Chiabrera will be 170 years old next year and I think that a common project can be born and that it can be a moment to celebrate all together ».
“I want to thank the Region for the collaboration and for the availability shown towards us – added the mayor of Savona Marco Russo – with the extension granted we can finally start with the works and thanks to the reallocation of the sums initially destined to the pilomats we can complete the intervention on the Chiabrera foyer, on the other rooms of the theater and, if we can, also on other parts of Piazza Diaz. Soon Savona will have a new square and a fully usable theater. This work is even more important given our goal of a “360 theater”, that is, a place of cultural innovation open to the city and a stimulus to the growth of Savona.
