Shakira Gets Candid in Interview About New Album, Breakup with Gerard Piqué

Colombian singer Shakira has once again opened up in a recent interview with the Colombian magazine Aló about her new album and her breakup with former partner Gerard Piqué.

Despite previously indicating that she had moved on from the breakup in June 2022, Shakira did not hesitate to take another swipe at the former footballer in the interview. She suggested that her relationship with Piqué was the reason why she went seven years without releasing an album, a streak that was broken with the release of her latest album, ‘Las mujeres ya no Llorn’, on March 22.

Shakira described her breakup with Piqué as the “impulse” she needed to create new music, including songs like ‘Session #53’, ‘Monotonía’, and ‘Acrostic’. She explained that she tried to channel her pain, anger, and disappointment into creativity, resilience, and strength, turning her album into a form of therapy that helped her heal.

The singer also shared her thoughts on love and betrayal, stating that she believes it is better to trust and be betrayed than to never trust at all. She emphasized the importance of teaching her children, Milan and Sasha, that there are good people worth loving.

Shakira described her children as her greatest support and revealed that she has had to adjust to being a single mother since moving to Miami with them a year ago. She reflected on her love-hate relationship with music during her time with Piqué in Barcelona, noting that she often felt guilty leaving her family to work on music.

Now, post-breakup, Shakira feels a newfound compulsion to work on music, describing it as a need she did not feel before. She emphasized the importance of being honest with her children about her feelings and encouraged open conversations where they can express their opinions.

Overall, Shakira’s interview offers a glimpse into her personal and creative journey following her breakup with Piqué, showcasing her resilience and determination to turn difficult experiences into sources of inspiration.
