“I’ve wanted to share a health update with you for a long time but I’ve been waiting until I had the strength to do it,” she says.

“At the end of 2022 I was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of aggressive brain cancer. I didn’t share this earlier because I wanted to make sure my children didn’t have to hear the news in the media.”

Glioblastomas are a fast-growing type of brain tumor and the most common type of cancerous (malignant) brain tumor in adults, according to Cancer Research UK.

Kinsella, who lives in the UK with her husband and children, said she is being treated by an “excellent team” at a hospital in London, and has undergone “successful surgery and subsequent radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which continues is going on’.

“Right now everything is stable and I feel very good overall, although I get very tired and my memory is even worse than before,” she added.

The author, who also goes by the name Madeleine Wickham, has sold more than 45 million copies of her books, which have been translated into more than 40 languages, in more than 60 countries, according to her website.

Her “Shopaholic” protagonist, Becky Bloomwood, a financial journalist who loves shopping and is hopeless with money, appeared on the big screen in 2009 in a film adaptation of “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” She was played by Australian actress Isla Fisher.
