Craig Fitzgerald, Dean Gavin and the brothers Matthew and Stephen Murtagh decided to form the band during their time at school together in Ireland in 2015.the academic” to found. In January 2018, “The Academic” finally released their debut album “tales from the backseat“ and immediately went to first place in the Irish album charts.
During the pandemic, the group released the EP’s “acting my age“ (July 2020) and “community spirit“ (July 2021) and the second album “ was only released in February 2023.sitting pretty“. This album once again reached first place in the Irish album charts. The band also gained greater international attention as a support band for ex-One Direction star “Louis Tomlinson” during his North American tour in 2023.
In April 2024, “The Academic” will be going on their own small European tour and will also be coming to Flex in Vienna for a tour stop.
