The 77th Cannes International Film Festival opens
Xinhua News Agency, Cannes, France, May 14 (Reporter Zhang Baihui) The 77th Cannes International Film Festival kicked off in Cannes, a metropolis in southern France, on the night of the 14th. The Chinese movie “The Merry Generation” competed for the best award and greatest movie, the Palme d’Or.
A complete of twenty-two movies have been shortlisted for the primary competitors of this movie pageant to compete for the “Palme d’Or”. Among them, the 85-year-old well-known American director Francis Ford Coppola will compete for the third “Palme d’Or” in his profession together with his new movie “Metropolis”. The chairman of the jury for the primary competitors unit is American actress and director Greta Gerwig. She will resolve the winner of the Palme d’Or along with eight different judges together with Japanese movie director Hirokazu Kore-eda.
This 12 months, many Chinese movies have been shortlisted for the Cannes Film Festival. Chinese director Jia Zhangke entered the primary competitors for the sixth time together with his new movie “The Merry Generation”; Guan Hu’s movie “Dogs” will compete with greater than ten movies for the “Un Certain Regard” award, which focuses on rising administrators and area of interest movies. “The Siege of Kowloon Walled City” by Hong Kong director Cheng Po-sui has been shortlisted for the “Midnight Screening” part, “Jiang Yuan Lane” directed by Peter Chan will probably be screened as a non-competition movie, and the 4K restoration of the basic movie “Eagle Project” starring Jackie Chan will seem in Cannes Film Festival Beach Cinema.
The opening ceremony of the movie pageant was hosted by French actress Camille Cottan, and the comedy “Second Act” by French director Quentin Dupieux was chosen because the opening movie. That evening, American actor Meryl Streep, who gained the Best Actress award on the 1989 Cannes Film Festival, attended the opening ceremony as an honorary visitor and acquired the Honorary Palme d’Or. This movie pageant will final till May 25, and the winners will probably be introduced on the closing ceremony.
The Cannes International Film Festival in France, the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, and the Venice International Film Festival in Italy are also referred to as the three main movie festivals in Europe.
