ROME – New trends are arriving from the world of rental, which intersect with the themes of luxury, lifestyle, the digital economy and above all tourist consumption habits. The news comes from Driverso’s Analysis Lab, during the second Driverso global meeting, held in Rome: high-end car rental plays a key role in the Italian and international tourist offer and acts as an element capable of characterizing and enriching the entire travel experience.

“This mobility proposal is appreciated by both national and international visitors and fits into a context in which customers seek not only comfort and exclusivity, but require immersive and personalized experiences in every detail of the stay, from the kitchen to the accommodation, up to car travel, which completes the range of services”, comments Pierluigi Galassetti, co-founder with Saverio Castellaneta of Driverso.

The numbers of the sector and the potential growth of luxury travel

The premium Car Hiring sector is rapidly expanding at a European level: turnover of 169 million euros in 2023, with 192 active companies and a car fleet of 3,456 units with an average rental cost of 2,916 euros; there were 58,074 transactions during the year. The average duration of the contracts was 5.4 days for a total of 313,600 days, with average revenues on the single vehicle amounting to 49 thousand euros.

“We have estimated that in Italy and Europe the growth trend could increase by more than 20% per year in the next 3-5 years: the turnover of the sector is expected to reach 195 million euros already at the end of this year, and then rise gradually up to the 714 million expected in 2030”, continues Galassetti. The potential market basin is enormous. The turnover of luxury travel is currently calculated at 1,380 billion euros.
