Tension in a food protest at the doors of the municipality of Roca

A protest by the Polo Obrero generated tension this morning at the doors of the municipality of Roca.

The local government ordered the doors of the main building, at 700 Miter Street, to be closed. fearing possible occupation of the central hall or other rooms.

The situation altered the functioning of all the organizations that provide services to the public and just after noon there was some relaxation, when representatives of the Executive received the petition carried by the organization’s representatives.

From the Polo Obrero they denied any attempt to affect the daily activity of the municipality and transferred responsibility for what happened to the government.

«We only wanted to deliver a note to the Secretary of Social Development (Diana Vazquez), but they were closed. They blocked the doors and sent us a lawyer, that for us he is not a valid interlocutor,” said members of the Polo Obrero to RÍO NEGRO Newspaper.

The note that they carried from the organization for the management led by María Emilia Soria had as its central point the claim for increased food assistance for the canteens that operate in the Roca neighborhoods.

“We are writing to you with the aim of being able to provide a solution to the problem that we are going through in dining rooms and picnic areas in which our colleagues prepare food for a large part of the neighborhoods,” begins the note addressed to the mayor.

Then they detail that «We do it with our lungs, we finance it through the organization and with general donations from the community. “That is why we ask for the collaboration of the municipality with meat products, fresh foods, non-perishable foods, hygiene products and tools to be able to continue providing such a noble and necessary service.”

The document specifically mentions the situation of three dining rooms in Barrio Nuevo and Quinta 25, where they offer 250 dinner portions and a similar amount for snacks, on different days of each week.

«The workers grouped in this organization are mainly unemployed who live on odd jobs and we are not responsible for this situation but the current crisis has a direct impact on us. It is for this reason that we urgently request a hearing, because hunger does not wait,” stated one of the groups that signed the petition.
