This Sunday, the Alto Valle Este prepares to receive the second “Bajada Rosaâ€an event that not only promotes physical activity and teamwork, but also seeks to raise awareness about the importance of breast cancer prevention and performing annual check-ups, particularly mammography and ultrasound mammary

The proposal is organized by the group “Valkirias Rosas”, a civil association made up of more than thirty women who have suffered from breast cancer, suffer from it or are undergoing treatment.

The project was born in March 2020 by the bioimaging graduate, Liliana Pagliaricci and the sports director, at that time, Ariel Oliveros, representative of the Municipality of Regina. They both organized “Regina rows for lifeâ€which was the first canoeing event held in the city.

Through collective and individual boat rowing, these women found in this sport an important resource for recovery after breast surgical interventions, with the aim of promoting lymphatic drainage.

Kind photo.

Promoted 27 years ago by the Canadian doctor Don McKenzie and practiced today by more than 40 thousand breast cancer survivors around the world, Dragon boat rowing demonstrated that it is not only an excellent activity to emotionally navigate recovery from the disease, but also prevents lymphedemaan accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the arm of the removed breast that affects one in every 4 women who underwent this tumor.

The boat is quite similar to the Viking longships. On the bow they have the head of a dragon – hence its name – that guides the way through its expressions. They move by rowing and there is also a helmsman who guides the direction.

It’s not just rowing. 12 people get on top of the boat: ten are “palmers”, that is, those who row; One is the helmsman and the remaining one is what is known as the drummer who is in charge of setting the navigation rhythm. They all work like a gear. Synchronicity is the key to moving forward.

Currently, some 40,000 women recovered from breast cancer around the world and there are more than 250 teams in 32 countries. The arm movement is very important for the improvement of the tissues of the extremities and trunk affected by highly invasive treatments.

It is clinically proven that there is a notable muscular improvement from this practice.

This Sunday, pink drop:

This activity will begin at nine in the morning. The participants will join Huergo with Regina through the waters of the Negro River. The requirement to participate is to wear something pink, in support of the cause.

In dialogue with RÍO NEGRO, commented that the participation of around 130 people who will arrive from Neuquén, Roca, Cipolletti, Huergo and San Antonio Oeste is expected. In addition, other cancer patient associations will join the event.

The main objective of the Bajada Rosa is to raise awareness about the disease and also seeks to raise funds for the acquisition of a dragon boat for the associationwhose value amounts to 10 thousand dollars.

For those interested in joining the activity or collaborating with the institution, you can contact Valkirias Rosas through social networks. Each contribution helps to reach the fundraising goal and make the dream of acquiring the dragon boat come true.
