The writer Vitaliano Trevisan died at the age of 62. Actor, playwright, screenwriter, he made his debut in literature with the novel The fifteen thousand steps. His most recent book is Works (Einaudi, 2016).

Born in Sandrigo, near Vicenza, in 1960, he was late in writing. Before, he had been an ice cream worker, a surveyor. Experience this told in Works: autobiographical text in which Trevisan also recounted the impossibility of moving away from his own history and education, from that family affair which is always, he wrote, “a story of money”.

Born in 1960, he lived for a long time in Cavazzale, later moving to Rome and then returning to the Vicenza area (to Crespadoro, where he has a home and where he spent many years with his faithful dog Dean Martin), then arriving in the surroundings of Pisa. He published the first short stories (A wonderful worldo in 1997 and Trio without piano / oscillations in 1998) and then became famous with the novel The fifteen thousand steps (Einaudi, 2002), much appreciated by critics. The book received the Lo Straniero and Campiello Francia Award 2008. In 2003 he is the author of the story and the screenplay of First love by Matteo Garrone, together with the director himself and Massimo Gaudioso, as well as main actor. He also stars in the film The shelter, in Across the sea and, for TV, in Ris Roma – Imperfect crimes. In 2016 he is co-star of the film Without a trace. In 2017 he won the Riccione Award for The delirium of the particular. Last fall he took part in the filming of One step from heaven.

He was one of the first Italian artists to publicly take a position against the institution of the green health card, explaining the reasons for this last August in an interview with the GdV. “If they ask me for the green pass I will not go on stage or on a set – he said -. I consider it a discriminatory means ». His position on vaccines is also clear. “I am not obliged to justify my choice any more than I am obliged to answer the phone or the doorbell – he wrote on his Facebook page -. Ps .: I will continue to write scripts and screenplays even if I will not be able to be present at shows or screenings ».
