They ask to subsidize Roca’s urban ticket with half of the proceeds from metered parking

A project prepared by the opposition proposes modifying the destination of the collection for metered parking in Roca, to create a municipal subsidy aimed at the urban transportation system.

The initiative was presented by the Together We Are Río Negro bloc and aims to inject funds from the State for the bus network, so that the current ticket price, set at 940 pesos.

That amount places Roca – along with Olavarría, which has the same rate – as the point in Argentina with the highest price to travel by bus, according to the ranking prepared by the Argentine Association of Automotive Transport Entrepreneurs (Aaeta).

Councilor Belén Bavastri’s proposal is to modify an article of Ordinance No. 4,908, which in article 9 establishes that 50% of the proceeds must go to student scholarships, and the remaining 50% goes to General Revenues Township.

“Just as the Government of the province of Rio Negro continues to subsidize public transportation of bus passengers, in this difficult economic context, we believe that the municipality could also collaborate with the cooperative that currently provides the service,” said the JSRN representative.

“We consider that Roca’s metered and paid parking, plus fines and so on, generate a lot of money for the municipality. The municipal scholarships should continue, but the other 50% for general issues that do not have details, could be well used to collaborate to lower the value of the bus ticket to the residents of our city,” said Bavastri.

The councilor of Juntos Somos Rio Negro anticipated that the request to modify this article of the current ordinance will be presented along with a request for a report to know details about the payment of student scholarships during the last year (number of scholarship recipients and amounts), in addition to aim to know the amount of resources generated by the parking system and the spontaneous payment of fines.
