Recording music or producing a new album in today’s Ukraine, or rather in its capital Kiev, is not easy due to the very tense situation.

That’s why I find it very remarkable when bands still manage to complete this process. This also includes the three unknown Blackies They Came From Visions. According to the announcement, their second album since its founding in 2019 musically reflects all the despair, anger and misery of the current war.

You can tell from their style that this is a band from Ukraine or Poland. However, the three nameless protagonists on this album already go their own ways and agree to the similarity comparisons MGLA and Basket from how they released their debut album Cloak of Darkness, Dagger of Night have been drawn more frequently.

Varied and creative

The Twilight Robes is clearly more varied and enthusiastic with creative songwriting. The folk elements that give the album a special touch should also be highlighted. However, these elements are not reproduced in a classical form with folkloric instruments. Here the band only lets the riffs speak in a special way.

In some parts of their aggressive Black Metal I can already see avant-garde traits. These are the two tracks The Sign of Damnation and Twilight Robes in their own sound cosmos and thus present all their skills. Musically, the two songs take me back to old ones Akercocke and let me reminisce. In particular, you have to praise the dark mood of the songs, especially the hateful screams are downright bloodcurdling and match the deeply cutting guitars one-to-one. Black Metal as you can’t really express it more originally.

In addition, the mysterious attitude of the band and the album also appeals to me. A city, three pseudonyms from Ukraine and an album that deals with humanity and its old, cruel rituals. It is precisely this eerie atmosphere that arises from such unreal situations that surrounds this album. For me the essence of what pure black metal should sound like. Conclusion
They Came From Visions have with The Twilight Robes took the necessary step forward for me to free myself from the constraints of comparisons and similarities to other bands. They have created a black metal album that has a regular place with me and I can recommend it to every genre fan. 9 / 10
