VLAD IN TEARS is a dark rock/alternative band that was originally founded in Italy, but has now set up camp in Berlin. A lot of material has been released since then and “Relapse” is the ninth album to be released these days.
Rhythmic, powerful tones determine the action right from the start, accompanied by powerful, somewhat scratchy singing. This playing style continues with “Broken Bones”, but with “Day By Day” you get to hear a fervently sung ballad in which the dark voice comes out stronger than before.
Siren tones open “Dig Deep”, a fast-paced track that invites you to bang along, just like “Fight For Another Day”, but “Goodbye” again features slower tones, which frame the haunting vocals in a pounding way . “Hello” is a track with partly German lyrics, which are soon pushed into the background by English lyrics. It’s actually a shame, because such a small reference to the boys’ new home wouldn’t have done any harm.
The symphonic framed “Hear Me Out” is very easy on the ear and in the lively “Live Again” the vocals are less scratchy and the chorus immediately invites you to sing along. At the end there is another very powerful track called “Not Good Enough” and so you say goodbye in a fast-paced way.
If you want to spend a little more money, you can also get the fan box, which includes the eleven new tracks and nine of them in acoustic versions.
VLAD IN TEARS primarily appeal to fans of dark rock, even if the songs are occasionally extremely powerful, but this dark flair is mainly created by Kris Vlad’s vocals, which usually create a lot of darkness. If you’re a fan of the genre and don’t know the band yet, you should definitely give them a chance.
