On May 8th, a press conference was held in Hangzhou for Mo Yan’s drama “Crocodile” by Yanghua Drama, with three leading actors in attendance. Zhao Wenxuan, Zhang Kaili, and Deng Cuiwen will be performing together on Friday and Saturday at the Hangzhou Theater, taking audiences on a journey to uncover the deepest secrets of human nature alongside a character known as the “crocodile.”

Zhao Wenxuan takes on the role of Shan Wuxian, the male protagonist in the play. He shared, “I got closer to this character bit by bit,” revealing his process of understanding and portraying a character who may not be inherently bad but succumbs to temptation and makes mistakes. Zhang Kaili, who plays Shan Wuxian’s wife Qiaoling, expressed excitement about returning to the drama stage after 7 years, noting the extreme and stylized nature of her character in this production.

Deng Cuiwen, known for playing “big heroine” roles, steps into the role of Skinny Horse, Shan Wuxian’s new love in “Crocodile.” She described the challenges and differences in portraying a character who is quarrelsome, flirtatious, and at times, very coquettish.

The upcoming performances promise a unique and intense experience for both the actors and the audience. The play’s exploration of complex human emotions and relationships is sure to captivate and provoke thought among theatergoers.
