El Paso, Texas—Get ready to lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails as Live Active El Paso announces the return of the 2024 Hike-A-Thon Series. Taking place from March 23 to July 13 at various trails and trailheads throughout the city, this outdoor event offers a great opportunity for individuals of all ages to move and improve their overall well-being while enjoying the stunning scenery of El Paso.
According to El Paso Parks and Recreation Acting Director Pablo Caballero, hiking provides numerous health benefits such as strengthening muscles, improving heart health, reducing anxiety, and enhancing mood. “The Hike-A-Thon has been a popular initiative, and we encourage everyone to participate in this free series that promotes health and activity,” he stated.
The series consists of five hikes, and participants who complete four will receive a prize. With a mix of trails ranging from beginner to moderate difficulty, there is something for everyone to enjoy. To register and obtain a Hiking Passport, interested individuals can fill out an online form available on the event’s website.
The Hike-A-Thon series kicks off on Saturday, March 23 at 7:30 am at the Lost Dog Trailhead. Subsequent hikes will take place on April 13th at Knapp Land, May 18 at Palisades Canyon Loop, June 15 at Upper Sunset, and July 13 at Cardiac Hill Trail.
Participants are advised to wear sturdy shoes, sun protection, and weather-appropriate clothing, and to bring plenty of water for the hikes. The 2024 Hike-A-Thon is a collaborative effort between Live Active El Paso, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the City Department of Public Health‘s Be Well program, and Frontera Land Alliance, with the goal of promoting outdoor recreation to improve physical and mental health.
