The renowned Spanish cardiologist Valentin Fuster has shared his insights on the keys to better health in a recent session with ‘We Learn Together from BBVA.’ With over 25 years of experience at Mount Sinaí Hospital in New York and as the general director of the National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) in Madrid, Fuster emphasized the importance of addressing both cardiac and mental health.
Fuster highlighted eight key ideas for improving overall well-being, categorizing them into “4 T’s” and “4 A’s.” The “4 T’s” focus on how one conveys what it is like, including the importance of spending time reflecting, discovering one’s talents, transmitting positivity, and having a trusted mentor. On the other hand, the “4 A’s” represent how one presents oneself to the world and feeling useful, which involve maintaining a positive attitude, accepting oneself, staying authentic, and practicing altruism.
According to Fuster, the rise in cardiovascular diseases can be attributed to the current unhealthy lifestyle, characterized by an accelerated, competitive, and urgent pace that often overlooks long-term well-being.
In his reflections, Fuster also emphasized the significance of feeling useful and giving back, stating that the happiest people are those who give rather than receive. With his extensive medical experience and wisdom at 86 years old, Fuster’s insights provide valuable guidance for individuals seeking holistic approaches to better health.
