The city of Busto Arsizio in the Varese area is on high alert as disinfestation cars equipped with mosquito repellent roam the streets. This is not a routine operation, as a man who recently returned from Brazil has been diagnosed with a suspected case of dengue fever.
The municipality wasted no time in taking action, focusing on the area around via Ippolito Nievo, Rione Sant’Edoardo. Treatments began at 10pm last night and will continue for three consecutive days. The local administration is advising residents not to consume fruit and vegetables from their gardens for at least 30 days following the intervention.
This urgent response was coordinated by Ats Insubria, in light of the increased alert on the tropical disease transmitted by mosquitoes, specifically the Aedes genus. Dengue fever is characterized by symptoms such as high fever, headache, joint pain, and skin rashes resembling those of measles.
Busto Arsizio is the first city to implement such measures following the recent health scare. The community is urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of dengue fever.
