Councilor Mammi: “In the next few days the Government representatives will hold a first meeting to share the strategy to combat the spread of African swine fever on the national territory”

March 7, 2024 – Le strategies to combat the spread of African swine fever on the National territory were at the center of the meeting, requested by the Emilia-Romagna Region, which the Councilor for Agriculture, Alessio Mammiheld yesterday at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry.

In the presence of the Undersecretaries of Health, Marcello Gemmatoand Agriculture, Patrizio Giacomo La Pietrahave been illustrated and measures for the depopulation of wild boars were sharednecessary to reduce the circulation of the virus in coordination between the different Regions.

The strategy is part of the national containment plan, drawn up by the extraordinary commissioner, Vincenzo Caputoand approved by the State-Regions Conference.

“From the comparison,” he explains moms– Emilia-Romagna’s proposal for closer coordination between the councilors of the neighboring regions emerged and was accepted: Liguria, Piedmont, Lombardy and Veneto. In the next few days, the Government representatives will hold an initial meeting which should then continue with a permanent round table.”

The actions implemented in Emilia-Romagna to increase the safety of the livestock heritage to protect the pig sector, which represents an important value for the Region both in terms of quantity and quality, were also illustrated.

“In these days – adds Mammi – a third tender will be released which we have decided to launch as a Region to increase biosafety levels, the third in order of time which sees a total commitment of over 7 million euros for these interventions allowing all questions received to be answered.”

The Region is also committed to promoting and supporting theactivities of the provincial police for the implementation of the plans depopulation of the species.

“Total financing has been approved for the Provinces 900 thousand euros, part of which is intended for the reduction of wild boars with the aim of massively reducing their presence in the area. Added to these resources are the two million advanced to the Extraordinary Commissioner which will always be used for this purpose, because it is important to act with the utmost commitment”.

After the first two meetings held in recent weeks in Parma and Piacenza, two further dates have been scheduled for the Province of Reggio Emilia and Modena, which although not yet affected by the spread of the virus, it is important to implement preventive measures.

“In these meetings – concludes Mammi – we decided to involve all the subjects of the territory, from the presidents of the Province to the mayors, from the representatives of the breeders to those of the sausage factories, from the territorial hunting areas to the hunting and agricultural associations, because we believe that in a At times like this, a great effort is needed from everyone to reduce the risks of the virus circulating. For this reason we have defined clear depopulation objectives, also shared with the local ATCs, which are part of a more overall strategy that we are illustrating in the scheduled meetings”.
