Roncadello, Italy – The restoration of the gym at the “Decio Raggi” primary school in Roncadello has been a point of contention for the City Council and the Democratic Party. Nine months after the devastating flood, work on the gym has finally begun, but with a timeline that is not meeting the expectations of the community.
The councilor for public works, Vittorio Cicognani, has announced that work on the gym started in February and is expected to be completed within 20 days. However, the Democratic Party has raised concerns about the slow progress of the restoration.
According to the Democratic Party, the workers only arrived on February 1st and did not proceed with the restoration due to the wet floor, despite the fact that 9 months had passed since the flood. As a result, students have been deprived of a space for physical activity and other activities that require the use of the gym.
In response, Cicognani explained that an initial check by technicians indicated that there was no need to restore the floor. However, it was later discovered that the subfloor was soaked, requiring a recovery project. The project was approved in December 2023 and the contract was awarded to a construction company on February 2nd.
The construction work has been made possible through a donation of 81,200 euros from ANCE Emilia-Romagna, in addition to funding from the Municipality. However, the Democratic Party has criticized the allocation of 75 thousand euros for an irrigation system for planters in Piazza Saffi, which they argue does not align with the educational needs of the students.
The slow progress and allocation of funds have sparked controversy and criticism from the community, with concerns about the impact on the educational activities of the students. As the restoration work continues, the City Council and the Democratic Party will be closely monitoring the project to ensure that it is completed in a timely manner and meets the needs of the school.
