They said their Yes in the rooms of the Serious Brain Injuries Unit of the Cona Hospital, where Enrico returned to live. With a simple ceremony, in front of family members and healthcare workers, Sabrina Biscaro and Enrico Gentili got married in front of the official of the Municipality of Ferrara – Dr. Laura Tonioli – Head of the Civil Status Office of the Municipality of Ferrara.

Enrico arrived at the San Giorgio Center after the stroke that struck him at the beginning of September last year. And from Treviso, where he lives with his wife and daughters Ada and Lisa aged 12 and 10, they took the road to Ferrara to face the long journey of rehabilitation – not yet finished – which however has given Enrico back hope for a return in family.

Last Tuesday 26 March, in the meeting room of the “San Giorgio” Rehabilitation, just a simple writing with black marker on a board: “Enrico & Sabri Today newlyweds!”. At their side are Enrico’s two daughters, sister and niece. And the health workers of San Giorgio.

“We wanted to get married here, and now, to seal Enrico’s great results in this difficult path”. Sabrina is moved as she explains the reason that pushed them towards marriage. “And December 2023 we are here in Ferrara in this wonderful Center. TO September last year my husband suffered a stroke and several complications that occurred following this episode. After a long period of coma, faced at the Treviso hospital, we chose San Giorgio for rehabilitation. After the extraordinary progress achieved by Enrico, who is facing this “journey” with courage and determination, the moment of Yes had arrived.”

He who is in love with travel, Enrico Gentili – civil lawyer – will soon be able to return home to his family and relive the daily life that illness had forced him to give up for too long.

“Our first meeting – Sabrina continues – it was in 2008. He was 38 and I was 37. We both always had our suitcases packed: the great passion we had in common was travel. And then, when we decided to spend our lives together, the camper too. Until our little girls were born, who transformed our lives. Enrico, in addition to work, loves writing and after having written the first book he was already ready to write the second.”

Then Sabrina stops for a moment, takes a breath, and talks about that bad day. “We had recently returned from a camper trip to Romania and Bulgaria when Enrico suffered a stroke caused by a congenital malformation. The first episode was on August 30, 2023, then a second, the most important, on September 1st. In the following days my husband underwent two surgeries during which, due to a complication, he seriously risked losing his life. After a month in a coma, Enrico first opened his eyes, and then slowly regained consciousness. He started moving one finger, then another, then his hand and a foot. Thus began his rehabilitation. Until they recommended the San Giorgio di Ferrara to us. The head of the Treviso Intensive Care Unit spoke with Dr. Susanna Lavezzi (Director of the Serious Gerebrolesion Operational Unit of the University Hospital of Ferrara) and after a thorough evaluation his transfer was approved. It was the December 6, 2023″.

“We have never lost hope”, says Sabrina “Enrico is recovering, even in a surprising way. The first months were very hard, but recently there has been an important step. And it was at this point that he asked me to get married. We also recently decided to have the two girls come to Ferrara: the wedding day was moving, exciting. A beautiful party.”

“The Rehabilitation of Cona – concludes Sabrina – played a fundamental role. The humanity and the great professionalism and kindness of everyone were decisive in the success of this journey”.
