Another massacre at work: five workers dead in Casteldaccia in the Palermo area – News

There are five workers died in an accident at work in Casteldacciain the Palermo area, fainted for fumes inside the lifting tanks of the sewer system and then deceased. A sixth was transported to the Policlinico hospital in Palermo after being intubated. According to an initial reconstruction, the six workers of a private company were carrying out some sewerage work on behalf of Amap, the company that manages the water and sewerage pipes in Palermo.

They would be two hypotheses: inhalation of gas or structural failure. This was said by the secretary of the Sicilian CGIL Alfio Mannino as soon as he arrived in Casteldaccia in the area of the massacre.

Three of the victims, who fainted from fumes inside the sewerage lifting tanks, were recovered by fire brigade divers. The workers, seven in total, were engaged in some maintenance work. At a certain point some of them began to feel ill. One of them managed to get out of the plant and raise the alarm; the other six were trapped and passed out due to fumes. For five of them there was nothing that could be done; the sixth was urgently transferred to the Polyclinic after being intubated.

Six workers were employed by Quadrifoglio group srl company in Partinico (Palermo). The company worked on behalf of the Palermo municipal company Amap which deals with water management in the city and in some municipalities in the province. A seventh worker would be an Amap temporary worker. It is not yet clear whether all the dead workers were employees of the Quadrifoglio group. The municipal company, short of staff, has outsourced some services for years and uses either workers from private companies or temporary workers while waiting to complete the competition procedures for new hires pending from 2022.
