A figure in contrast to previous years: in 2020 the overall consumption, public and private, of antibiotics in Italy decreased by 18% compared to 2019 with a consumption of 17.7 doses per thousand inhabitants. Total expenditure also decreased by 5%, which includes both the portion reimbursed by the NHS (85% of the total) and private purchases, and which amounted to 814 million euros corresponding to 13.65 euros per capita.
