Apple, now the “Where’s” app also tracks devices manufactured by other companies

by admin

A novelty that will please all those who combine headphones and accessories not produced by Apple (and there are many) with their iPhones and iPads: the system app “Where is” now allows you to trace even products not made by Apple. And the companies that produce them will be able to join the “Find My Network Accessory Program”, so that Apple devices can memorize and geolocate them. .

“Where is” is a system app (in English “Find my”) that is used to recover the position of your devices and accessories, even those lost. Belkin, Chipolo and VanMoof products compatible with the new Where’s app feature will arrive in the next few days. “For more than a decade, our customers have relied on Where’s to locate lost or stolen Apple devices without jeopardizing their privacy,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Now, thanks to the Find My Network Accessory Program, we are giving even more people the opportunity to take advantage of the powerful features of Find My, one of our most popular services.”

The Find My Network Accessory Program is governed by privacy measures that are completely identical to those Apple employs for its branded products. Third parties must comply with all safety measures, and their accessories will appear in a new special tab. The first products to be included in the app will be the latest models of VanMoof’s S3 and X3 e-bikes, Belkin’s true wireless SOUNDFORM Freedom earphones and Chipolo’s ONE Spot tracker.

Not only that: Apple uses Ultra Wide Band technology to increase location accuracy. Together with the new “Dov’è”, the Cupertino company also presented the technological innovations for circuit manufacturers that will be disclosed in the coming months. These specifications will allow other manufacturers to take advantage of the UWB and the U1 chip, the one that deals with it within Apple’s devices. (t.t.)
