Asturian Doctors Among Elite in Spanish Healthcare System
According to the 2023 edition of the Healthcare Reputation Monitor (MRS), eight doctors from Asturias have been ranked among the elite in their respective specialties. This ranking is considered to be the only independent study that analyzes the reputation of the entire Spanish healthcare system.
Ophthalmologists Luis Fernández-Vega Sanz and José Alfonso Sánchez, both from the Fernández-Vega Ophthalmological Institute (Oviedo), were ranked third and seventh, respectively. The general and digestive surgeon Fernando Rotellar Tailor, rheumatologist Ruben Queiro Silva, and other specialists have also been recognized for their excellence in their fields.
The MRS has been providing an annual ranking of public and private hospitals since 2014. In the most recent edition, the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA) and the Cabueñes Hospital in Gijón have shown improvement in their rankings. The Fernández-Vega Institute has also maintained its status as the best Spanish department of private ophthalmology for three consecutive years.
In addition to individual recognitions, eight HUCA services have been ranked as among the elite in Spanish healthcare, including maxillofacial surgery, ENT, pediatrics, pulmonology, psychiatry, internal medicine, rheumatology, and plastic surgery.
