Avian flu in cows, FDA says pasteurized milk is safe – Food

– After the fears of recent days, linked to the finding of traces of the A/H5N1 avian influenza virus in samples of pasteurized milk, the Food and Drug Administration, the US government body that deals with the regulation of food and pharmaceutical products, has reassured : Additional testing “did not detect any live, infectious virus. These findings reaffirm our assessment that the commercial supply of milk is safe,” the agency explains in an update posted on its website.

Meanwhile, the toll of the epidemic is rising: on Saturday the Department of Agriculture confirmed the presence of the virus in a herd of dairy cows in Colorado. With this latest update, the number of outbreaks rises to 34 and the number of affected states to nine.
