Lombardy Region Welfare Councilor Guido Bertolaso continues his mission to train new nurses in South America
The Lombardy Region welfare councilor, Guido Bertolaso, is currently in Buenos Aires, Argentina on a mission to train and ‘recruit’ new nurses. The objective of this initiative is to address the shortage of staff, especially nurses, in hospitals. Bertolaso emphasized the importance of prioritizing the well-being of healthcare workers and has taken concrete actions to support them.
“We were the first, like Lombardy, to have arranged a series of economic incentives for those who work in emergency rooms, for those who deal with emergencies and urgency,” Bertolaso stated. “We have opened up various specialties to freelance professions, including pediatrics, psychiatry, orthopedics, and other specializations that are lacking in hospital facilities, increasing hourly incentives. The objective is to revitalize and reorganize our public health service.”
The mission in South America is particularly significant due to the close ties between Italy and Argentina. With a large population of 1,800,000 Argentines holding Italian passports, there is a strong potential for a bilateral cooperation program. The goal is to train nurses in Argentina who can contribute to the local healthcare system and potentially work in Italy in the future.
Moreover, Councilor Bertolaso has further plans to extend this initiative to the United States. In May, he will travel with the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, to Washington to connect with Italian doctors working in the country. The aim is to bring together Italian healthcare professionals and researchers to discuss Lombardy’s vision for public health and explore potential collaborations.
The efforts of Councilor Bertolaso highlight the Lombardy Region’s commitment to supporting healthcare workers and addressing the challenges in the healthcare sector. Through international collaborations and training programs, the region is striving to strengthen its healthcare system and enhance the quality of care provided to its residents.
