Back pain is a very common problem, so much so that, according to the WHO, it is the leading cause of disability in the world. This disorder could be associated with various critical issues, especially related to wrong lifestyles. In fact, to cause back pain could, for example, be bad posture, excessive sedentary lifestyle, being overweight or carrying out work that is too exhausting.
Furthermore, it could also be linked to other conditions, such as muscle or tendon tears, hernias, arthritis, osteoporosis, and so on.
However, as the Istituto Superiore di Sanità explains, back pain could also appear in other situations. Let’s see what it is.
We pay attention to back pain because it could be the alarm bell of this unthinkable physical condition
This annoying back disorder could be linked, as we have seen, to several causes. This could also include acute cholecystitis, which is an inflammation of the gallbladder (or gallbladder). This organ, located under the liver, has the task of storing bile, a substance necessary for digesting and absorbing fats.
Sometimes, however, so-called gallstones may form inside the ducts that connect the gallbladder to the liver. These are basically small “stones” that obstruct these ducts creating disturbances, sometimes even serious ones.
Symptoms and complications
Among the most common symptoms could be, for example, a stinging pain in the abdomen, especially in the right area, which spreads to the shoulder blade and back. So, that’s why you need to pay attention to back pain because it could be the alarm bell of this unthinkable physical condition.
Other symptoms that could signal the presence of acute cholecystitis could include high fever, loss of appetite, nausea, and bloating of the abdomen.
In addition, without inadequate treatment, cholecystitis could cause other life-threatening complications. For example, gallbladder tissue death (called gangrenous cholecystitis) could occur, which could cause a serious infection throughout the body.
Or, the gallbladder could puncture and cause the infection to spread into the abdomen (peritonitis).
In these cases, surgery is usually done to remove the gallbladder. In fact, even without this organ it is possible to lead a normal life, also because the liver will continue to produce the necessary bile during digestion.
Prevention strategies
Acute cholecystitis is a disorder that cannot always be prevented, but with the right diet you could decrease the risk of contracting it.
The advice, therefore, is to avoid foods with a high cholesterol content and to control your weight. Overweight and obesity, in fact, increase the risk of developing gallstones and it is therefore necessary to lead a healthy life, also practicing physical activity.
Finally, low-calorie diets that aim to make you lose weight too quickly are also not recommended.
