Castilla y León Introduces ‘Safety, Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2024-2026’ to Enhance Workplace Safety and Organizational Wellbeing

The Official Gazette of Castilla y León (Bocyl) has released the ‘Safety, Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2024-2026′ on Monday, outlining a comprehensive plan to address new challenges associated with healthy work environments and organizational well-being. The strategy includes six general missions, 25 specific objectives, and 101 preventive actions aimed at promoting safety and health in the workplace.

Approved by the Government Council last Thursday, this groundbreaking strategy is a first in the history of Castilla y León, focusing specifically on safety and health issues, particularly in rural areas. It aims to prevent the negative effects of new forms of production and labor organization within the region’s business sector.

Described as a “disruptive plan” by the spokesperson for the Board, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, the strategy represents a significant improvement over traditional measures in this area. It will be implemented over the next three years through three annual action programs.

Interest in the design of Castilla y León’s Health and Safety Strategy has been expressed by other autonomous communities, with plans to replicate the approach taken by the region starting in 2022.

The strategy’s general missions include reducing the accident rate across all sectors through changes in working conditions, tailoring preventive actions to each province’s needs, promoting a culture of occupational risk prevention, and fostering collaboration between different stakeholders. Additionally, the strategy aims to promote safety, health, and well-being in rural areas.

Fernández Carriedo emphasized the involvement of a wide range of sectors and society in developing the strategy. Information sessions were held, stakeholders were consulted, and input was sought from various union and employer associations. The strategy has also been reviewed by the General Directorate of Citizen Attention and Quality of Services.
