Covid reinfections are on the rise. At 12% in the last week – Health

In the last week the percentage of reinfections out of the total number of cases reported, it was 11.7%, an increase compared to the previous week (10.8%). The analysis of the risk of reinfection starting from 6 December 2021 (the date considered to be the reference date for the start of the spread of the Omicron variant), highlights an increased risk of reinfection that affects more subjects with the first diagnosis for over 210 days.

From 24 August 2021 to 13 July 2022, 738,757 cases of reinfection were reported, equal to 4.9% of the total cases notified. This is evidenced by the extended report of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità according to which the effectiveness of the anti-Covid vaccine in the Omicron prevalence period (from January 3) is 86% against severe disease in dose booster vaccinates.

Furthermore, the report points out that it rises to 67% in vaccinated with a full course of less than 90 days, 68% in vaccinated with a full course of 91 and 120 days, and 70% in vaccinated with a full course of more than 120 days. Against infections, however, the effectiveness of the booster is 50%and drops to 37% in 90 days from the completion of the vaccination cycle, to 28% between 91 and 120 days, and 45% beyond 120 days from the completion of the vaccination cycle.

The mortality rate in the population over 12 years, in the period 20 May-19 June for the unvaccinated (10 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) is about seven times higher than for those vaccinated with a full cycle of less than 120 days (1 death per 100,000 inhab.) And about six and a half times higher than vaccinated with additional dose / booster (2 deaths per 100,000 inhab.).

In the same period and always in relation to the population over 12 years of age, the hospitalization rate for the unvaccinated (66 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhab.) Is approximately two and a half times higher than for those vaccinated with a full cycle of less than 120 days. (23 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhab.) And more than three and a half times higher than vaccinated with additional dose / booster (19 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhab.).
