The Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) has been awarded international accreditation for its Medical Career Program for a six-year period. The accreditation was granted by the International Evaluation and Accreditation Committee (CEAI) from the Union of Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (UDUALC).
Minister of Public Health, Dr. JosĆ© Angel Portal Miranda, announced the successful completion of the accreditation process on social media, praising the quality of ELAM graduates and expressing pride in the achievement. The accreditation decision was based on a participatory self-evaluation carried out by ELAM, peer evaluator feedback, and the schoolās response.
The accreditation reflects the schoolās excellence in university governance and management, infrastructure, training, research, artistic creation and innovation, and internationalization. ELAM, founded in 1999 by Fidel Castro Ruz, has become a leading institution for the comprehensive training of health professionals, hosting visits from numerous heads of state, health ministers, and Nobel Prize winners.
Dr. Portal Miranda congratulated the entire ELAM community for the achievement and committed to maintaining and improving the high educational standards that ELAM is known for in the training of doctors for Cuba and the world. The accreditation was officially delivered to the institutionās rector, Dr. Yoandra Muro.
