Esperanza College Hosts Successful Spring Health Fair

Spring is a time of renewal and rebirth, bringing longer days, warmer weather, and a sense of starting fresh. To celebrate this season of rejuvenation, Esperanza College recently held its Spring Health Fair on April 24th. The event, organized by Champions of Hope, Latinos Preventing Diabetes, in collaboration with several community partners, was a free event open to all Esperanza College staff and students, their families, and community residents.

The fair featured a variety of activities aimed at promoting health and wellness. Participants had the opportunity to learn about vaccination against COVID-19 and the flu through the Our Voices, Our Vaccines initiative, enjoy oral health education and receive free dental care supplies from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry, and partake in CPR training and demonstrations provided by Gail Acosta from Esperanza Cyber School.

Dr. Nilsa Graciani, Esperanza STEM Director and one of the organizers of the health fair, emphasized the importance of living a healthy lifestyle through staying active and eating a balanced diet. She mentioned that participants were also educated on diabetes prevention, virtual reality for physical activity, and nutrition through the Healthy Family Life series. Additionally, attendees enjoyed Zumba classes, yoga sessions, free blood pressure and glucose screenings, and a live healthy cooking demonstration by a professional chef. Prizes were raffled off at the end of the fair for lucky winners.

Approximately 70 people attended the fair, and 25 vendors participated in the event. Univision covered the fair live, shining a spotlight on the importance of community health initiatives. Dr. Nilsa Graciani expressed gratitude to Cities for Better Health (formerly Cities Changing Diabetes) for their support in making a positive impact in the community through events like the Spring Health Fair.
