New associative leaders for Italian pharmaceuticals, one of the leading sectors of Italian manufacturing. Farmindustria, which met yesterday in Rome in the assembly, unanimously elected Marcello Cattani as the new president for the two-year period 2022-2024. Cattani takes the place of Massimo Scaccabarozzi who was at the helm of the association of pharmaceutical industries for over a decade, that is from 2011 to 2022. Cattani has been president and CEO of Sanofi Italy and Malta since 2020.
Who is the new president of Farmindustria
Born in Milan 50 years ago, he is married, has two children and lives in Parma. He has a degree in Biological Sciences with a biomolecular focus with a specialization in Food Chemistry and Technology at the University of Parma. In over 20 years he has held roles of increasing responsibility nationally and internationally, accrued in several leading global biopharmaceutical companies. Before becoming president of Farmindustria, he was delegate for industrial relations and coordinated the association groups on prevention, rare diseases, work and sustainability. He is also a member of the General Council of Confindustria.
The composition of the Presidential Committee
Furthermore, yesterday the Association Assembly of Farmindustria elected the Presidential Committee composed of five Vice-Presidents: it is in particular Lucia Aleotti (A. Menarini), Alberto Chiesi (Chiesi Farmaceutici) and then also Luciano Grottola ( Ecupharma), Nicoletta Luppi (MSD Italy) and also Lorenzo Wittum (Astrazeneca). The Presidential Committee also includes: Emma Charles (BMS); Valentino Confalone (Novartis); Maurizio de Cicco (Roche); Francesco De Santis (Italfarmaco); Massimo Di Martino (Abiogen Pharma); Pierluigi Petrone (Euromed).
The Public Assembly in Rome
The new President will present his program during the Public Assembly of Farmindustria on 7 July «Being competitive in Europe. Pharmaceutical Scenarios “which will take place in Rome starting at 11 at the Auditorium della Conciliazione. The participation of the ministers of economic development Giancarlo Giorgetti and of health Roberto Speranza is expected to attend the event. Among other interventions also Letizia Moratti, Vice President and Councilor for Welfare of the Lombardy Region; Nicola Zingaretti, President of the Lazio Region and Maurizio Marchesini, Vice President for Supply Chains and Medium Enterprises of Confindustria
