Within the framework of the month dedicated to awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ELA), la Medicine School from University of Puerto Rico is preparing to carry out an event of great importance: the Third Symposium for patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and their families.
The symposium, an initiative coordinated by the Multidisciplinary Clinic of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis from Medicine School together with the Hispanic Caribbean ALS Center for Clinical Research (CHALS-CCT), will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Jaime Benítez Amphitheater of the Medical Sciences Campus (RCM) from 8:00 AM to 12: 00 PM. Admission will be free and open to health professionals as well as patients with ALS, their families and the community in general.
Commitment to patients and their families
This symposium stands as an invaluable opportunity to unite the ALS community, share the latest advances in disease research and management strategies, as well as reinforce commitment to patients and their families.
Dr. Brenda Deliz, Director of the Multidisciplinary Clinic of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis from Medicine School and one of the Principal Researchers of CHALS-CCT, highlighted the importance of this event as a space for union and exchange of knowledge.

Promoting understanding and support
For her part, Dr. Valerie Wojna, another CHALS-CCT Principal Investigator, emphasized the need to foster greater understanding about ALS and the positive impact that research and community support can have on the lives of those facing this disease. .
“Through this event, we hope to foster greater understanding about ALS and how, through research and community support, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those facing this disease.”

Finally, Dr. Debora Silva, Dean of the Medicine Schoolstressed that this symposium reflects the institution’s mission to improve the health of the population through education and research innovation, expressing his pride in being part of this very relevant initiative.
