Berlin: (hib/PK) Last year, 1,741 cases of whooping cough (pertussis) were reported to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) nationwide. In three cases, patients died from the disease, as can be seen from the response (20/7067) from the Federal Government in response to a small inquiry (20/6831) of the AfD faction.
According to the Infection Protection Act (IfSG), the disease has been notifiable since March 2013. With the start of the reporting obligation, a total of 92,860 cases of whooping cough have been registered nationwide, including 13 deaths. Most cases (16,836) were reported in 2017 and fewest (810) in 2021.
