Google rumored that the development of new AR smart glasses will be the responsibility of the Pixel hardware team

by admin

As early as 2013, Google released the smart glasses Google Glass, but later changed to only sell to corporate customers. Recently, the “New York Times” published a report that Google is developing a new generation of augmented reality (AR) smart glasses. They mentioned that Google acquired a Canadian company named North in 2020 and returned engineers to Google’s devices and Under the service department.

The report stated that North not only stopped selling their smart glasses Focals 1.0, but also terminated the original plan to launch Focals 2.0. It is known that North’s engineers will work with those who have been responsible for the development of hardware such as Pixel and Nest, as well as the augmented reality operating system. Both belong to the same team. Although Google has not disclosed the project that the team is developing, from the perspective of Google’s acquisition of North, it is believed that they are interested in the patent of their smart glasses project.

Part of North’s project itself originated from Intel, and its patents include direct projection of digital images to the user’s eyes, but it is pointed out that this design will increase the weight of the glasses. Google did not respond to the “New York Times” report. It is estimated that more relevant information will flow out until the augmented reality smart glasses will be launched soon.
