The Asst Spedali Civili di Brescia has successfully secured funding for five projects under the National Recovery and Resilience Program (PNRR), solidifying its position as a leader in the field of biomedical research. Three of these projects were presented in the first call for tenders in 2022, with work set to commence in January 2023, while the remaining two were submitted in the second call for tenders in 2023, scheduled to start in January 2024. Additionally, the Asst Spedali Civili is also participating as a partner in two other projects led by another institution.
The areas of study covered by these projects are diverse and crucial to advancing medical research. They include rare and hereditary immunity diseases, neurological and neurodegenerative conditions, as well as emerging infectious diseases. These projects were meticulously selected through a competitive review process by international expert reviewers, with a total funding of 3 million and 236 thousand euros allocated to the Civil sector.
One of the standout projects is the “implementation of an Italian Network for advanced diagnosis and targeted treatment of Inborn errors of immunity,” which aims to identify new strategies for diagnosing these rare hereditary diseases. Another notable project is the “Brain synchronization to treat early stage Alzheimer Disease – BrainSync-AD,” which proposes a novel approach using transcranial alternating current stimulation to improve memory disorders in Alzheimer’s patients.
Dr. Aldo Maria Roccaro, Director of the Complex Structure Clinical Trial Center and Phase I Studies at Asst Spedali Civili, expressed his pride in the selection of these projects, emphasizing the importance of scientific validity and originality in the proposals. He highlighted the significant impact these projects will have on strengthening biomedical research at the Civil Hospitals.
Overall, the successful funding of these projects underscores Asst Spedali Civili di Brescia’s commitment to advancing healthcare and innovation in the field of biomedical research.
