After a certain age, it is good to go to doctors more often. In this way, regular check-ups are possible. We can be sure that we do not suffer from any pathology or to treat the onset of some problems.
Speaking of doctors, today we would like to focus on the prevention of heart disease, citing a recent study that gives interesting indications and confirms the best methods to reduce the risk of contracting diseases.
Physical activity remains essential
Research conducted in South Korea analyzed data from more than a million people to assess the relationship between exercise and the onset of heart disease. Participants were 60 or older and their health was checked three times over a 7-year span. The goal was to try to understand if exercise could reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease even in old age.
The results gave some interesting indications: first of all they confirmed that physical activity could lower the risk of heart disease. More precisely, it was observed that those who started exercising three or four times a week reduced the risk of heart disease by 11%. This group of people was initially inactive, meaning they did not exercise.
Those who were already exercising once or twice a week, and increased their physical activity to at least five times a week, saw a 10% reduction in risk.
Here’s how you could reduce your risk of stroke and heart disease after age 60 even if you have high blood pressure or diabetes
Finally, those who initially exercised and then quit saw a 27% higher risk of contracting heart disease.
Another interesting result concerns the participants who suffered from diabetes, hypertension or who were in a condition of disability.
Diabetics and hypertensive people saw a reduction in the risk of heart disease between 4% and 7%, going from inactive to 3 or 4 physical exercises per week. On the other hand, those with disabilities have seen their risk reduced by 16%.
In short, the results seem to confirm that physical activity is good, even after the age of 60 and even in chronic conditions such as diabetes. This could therefore help to make better prevention against heart disease, which with the increasing average age in the world could be more and more common.
Here, then, is how the risks of stroke and many other diseases could be reduced.
Deepening
In addition to being good for the heart and metabolism, this activity would help prevent and treat diabetes without resorting to drugs
