At the start of the new year, many people want to eat healthier. Foods such as fruit, vegetables and nuts not only have an impact on physical well-being – but also on mental health.

Andreas Jopp, an expert in healthy eating, reports in an interview with podcast host and editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung that what we eat can have a very specific effect on our mood. The hippocampus in the brain, which helps us deal with stress, is densified with vitamins and healthy fats. According to studies, this “brain renovation” can also help against depression – better than taking psychotropic drugs. Jopp reveals which types of fruit and vegetables are particularly recommended.
