A large proportion of patients said they had lied about at least one of this information, especially about disagreeing with the doctor’s recommendations (about 38% of respondents) and about not understanding his indications (about 28%) . Among the most common reasons: fear of being judged (about 73% of “liars”), not wanting to know how harmful their behavior is (about 68%) and feeling embarrassed (about 55%).
There’s more… For researchers, it may be partly the responsibility of doctors: teaching them to communicate more effectively with the patient by putting him at ease would avoid lies that are counterproductive to his health.
