The Isabel Zendal Nursing Hospital in the Community of Madrid is now home to a specialized Day Care Center for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients. The center, which officially opened its doors this Monday, is the first of its kind in all of Spain.
Constructed with the intention of providing top-notch medical care, rehabilitation, and psychological assistance to ALS patients, the center boasts a team of forty interdisciplinary professionals. This team includes auxiliary technicians, nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists, and more, ensuring comprehensive care for each patient.
Patients attending the center will be referred from various public hospitals in the region, with a capacity to care for up to 60 individuals a day. In addition to medical services, the center also offers specialized outpatient services and training for caregivers on the proper use of assistive devices and clinical supports.
The ALS NETWORK, to which the Isabel Zendal Hospital now belongs, aims to provide support and resources to those affected by ALS. With approximately 600 cases in the Community of Madrid and 4,500 nationwide, the organization works towards funding research for this neurodegenerative disease.
The opening of the specialized Day Care Center for ALS at the Isabel Zendal Hospital marks a significant step forward in providing much-needed care and support for those affected by this debilitating disease.
