Incontradonna promotes physical activity for cancer patients

At gymnastics class with Samuel Peron and Gian Luca Di Luca to remind everyone that doing physical activity is good for health and also for cancer prevention. It will take place this afternoon at 6 pm at Link Campus University as part of the final event of the ‘Muoviamoci Amiamoci’ 2022 edition project organized by IncontraDonna Onlus.

All the benefits of movement

The aim of the meetings was to promote sporting activity, raise awareness among cancer patients (and not only) on how important it is to carry out physical activity and encourage aggregation and sociability that have been particularly lacking in the last two years. “Exercise is helpful in both preventing cancer and supporting cancer patients. This is why it should be promoted and encouraged, among the entire population, because it can become an effective tool against the ever-increasing number of cancers “, he declares Adriana Bonifacino, president of IncontraDonna Onlus and member of the Board of Sport and Health. “The project is in line with the mission of Sport and Health“, declares the President Vito Cozzoli complimenting IncontraDonna.

Exercise in cancer management

The initiative had an excellent response in terms of participation: “It is clear – continues Bonifacino – that citizens affected by a neoplasm have new needs compared to a few years ago. Among these there is also sport intended not only as a generator of health and well-being but also as a hobby. It is also shown by numerous scientific researches that increasing the level of physical activity and, consequently, reducing sedentary lifestyle, represents a way to reduce the risk of developing various serious diseases. Among these there is also cancer, a disease that tends to be more and more chronic and stabilizable thanks also to more effective therapies and early diagnosis. In addition, moderate-intensity aerobic or resistance exercise has become part of the management of cancer. This is what some international guidelines and many studies conducted on cancer patients establish, as part of the so-called integrated therapies “.

From postural gymnastics to oriental dance

The ‘Muoviamoci Amiamoci’ initiative has reached its second edition and this year four other meetings have already been held, in various parks in Rome, dedicated to postural gymnastics, soft dance and oriental dance. At each event, well-trained athletic trainers gave classes. “We wanted to differentiate the type of physical activity offered – adds Bonifacino. In fact, there are no particular limitations for patients but do-it-yourself is strongly discouraged. We therefore invite patients and caregivers to discuss this particular aspect with the medical specialist. The modality, intensity and frequency of training must be commensurate with the patient’s general state of health. Only in this way can physical effort help the patient and promote psycho-physical well-being and a better response to therapies by the body “.

To take care of

More than 3 million people with a cancer diagnosis live in Italy. There are a total of 834 thousand women with breast cancer alone and many manage to defeat the disease. “Assistance – concludes the president of IncontraDonna Onlus – must not only be limited to the administration of therapies and treatments but also to the person who can and must return to live a normal life. It is a path of care and of taking care. The promotion of sport, physical activity and socializing is part of this perspective which must assume greater importance in the coming years “. A need well expressed by Nicoletta, patient and volunteer of IncontraDonna, who declares: “Sport has meant a lot for physical recovery and above all for psychological recovery following the intervention. Basically it is the metaphor of life: victory and defeat, fatigue and relaxation that allow you to rediscover the beauty, the uniqueness of life and to appreciate yourself for having overcome even what we believed to be our limits “.
