Italy split between African heat and strong rain showers; Weekend forecast

Updated weather forecast for the Easter weekend

Over the Easter weekend, Italy will find itself split between a first African hot flare-up and heavy downpours which, between Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st March, will be frequent in some areas of our country. In short, the Easter holidays will not see homogeneous weather across the country.

On the one hand we will have the advance on the Mediterranean basin of that African anticyclone which is generally the protagonist during the summer and which will cause the first real heat in a good part of the Centre-South, starting from Saturday 30th March. Thanks to the origin of the sub-tropical air masses (inside the Sahara desert), we expect a sharp increase in temperatures which will reach typical June values: in fact, maximum peaks of around 26-28°C are expected in the South and on the two Major Islands; but the heat will also be felt throughout the central-southern Adriatic side, up to Romagna.
On the other hand we will have to deal with a vast Atlantic cyclone, located between the British Isles and France, a vortex which as the hours pass will drive a storm-like disturbance towards the heart of the Old Continent, ready to also involve our regions northern.

Therefore, from Saturday afternoon the entry of these currents at high altitude will favor the genesis of the first showers in the Alps, with local extension to the adjacent plains. Our attention then shifts to Easter day (Sunday 31st) when the probability of thunderstorms will be higher with the possibility of hailstorms as well. Areas at risk of storms for EasterThe most at risk, according to the latest updates, will be the arch alpine and the plains of Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia Romagna. Some storms may also affect Liguria and, more marginally, Tuscany.
Elsewhere the African anticyclone will guarantee more solid atmospheric stability, offering lots of sun and temperatures well above the climatic averages: in the South and on the two major islands there will therefore be room for the bravest ones to take their first dives into the sea!
