Lack of Interest: Only Six Future Doctors Choose Valladolid Hospitals for Residency

Only six future doctors chose Valladolid hospitals this Monday to carry out their residency, among the 600 with the best grades. According to the data published by the Ministry of Health, the first Resident Internal Doctor (MIR) who opted for this province was the one chosen in number 172, which will go to Internal Medicine of the Río Hortega. The following were number 301 (Cardiology, in the Clinic), numbers 305 and 463 (both Dermatology, in the Clinic), number 565 (Anesthesiology and Resuscitation in the Clinic) and 569 (Plastic, Aesthetic and Repair Surgery in the Río Hortega).

In Castilla y León, 19 places were chosen from the first 600. The first three places awarded in Spain were Dermatology, at the Infanta Sofía University Hospital in Madrid and on October 12; and Anesthesia and Resuscitation, at the University Clinical Hospital of Santiago de Compostela.

The exams were held on January 20 and the incorporation of these MIRs into their positions is scheduled for the end of May. Health received 12,852 applications for 8,772 places. The specialty with the greatest offer is Family and Community Medicine, for which 2,492 places have been announced, but the elections show that, despite the lack of professionals in this field, it continues to be one of the least attractive. Only six MIRs chose this specialty among the top 350. They will go to Madrid, Santiago de Compostela, San Sebastián, Vigo, Vitoria, and Córdoba.

The process of choosing places will last until April 19.
