During the inaugural ceremony of the 23rd Aiom Congress, Giordano Beretta (AIOM President) e Saverio Cinieri (AIOM president-elect) awarded the AIOM 2021 Awards including the “Dino Amadori” Award dedicated to an oncologist who has done his utmost in social and humanitarian activities. The winner was Lucio Crinò, former director of the Oncology Department of the Perugia Hospital and Extraordinary Professor of the University of the Umbrian city. Author of over 200 publications in international scientific journals, he currently holds the role of Scientific Advisor of the Thoracic Pathology Group of the IRST IRCCS of Meldola. The AIOM jury wanted to reward him because he represents: “an example and a reference not only for the undoubted skills as a doctor and scientist demonstrated during an exemplary career, but also for the extraordinary humanitarian action within the project in support of medical oncology activities in disadvantaged geographical areas such as those of Sub-Saharan Africa, and in particular in the Mwanza area in Tanzania “. Tanzania is a country where malignant tumors are the second leading cause of death, after the three major infectious diseases (malaria, AIDS and tuberculosis).
