In addition to Google’s announcement to update the Google Duo function, Meta also quietly updated its Messenger service function earlier, which added the “Call” function to the bottom page of the Messenger service’s home screen, making it easier for users to use an independent project.
In fact, Meta has already added voice and video calling options to the top of the separate chat page in the Messenger service for a long time. This time, the “call” function is specially made as one of the paging options at the bottom of the main service screen. Meta said that it is to make it more convenient for users to use, and at the same time, it can also clearly understand who has recently made a voice or video call through Messenger.
However, this update is currently only adjusted for the Messenger service on the Android platform, and the iOS platform version has not been updated, but it is expected to follow up in the future.
From the data point of view, the proportion of voice or video calls through the Messenger service has grown by 40% since the beginning of 2020. In order to attract more people to use it, not only did encrypted calling be added at the beginning of this year, but also functions such as expressing feelings for specific messages, or replying or forwarding specific messages, making it easier for users to communicate through the Messenger service.
At present, Messenger has become one of Meta’s important services, and it will also be able to link with Meta’s Instagram and WhatsApp services in an end-to-end encrypted manner. In addition, Meta currently also regards Messenger as an application content development platform. For example, it has added functions such as online money transfer in the past, and it can also be used as an augmented reality application content interaction platform.
