Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento Recognized for Management of Prostate Cancer Complications
The Santa Chiara hospital in Trento has been recognized for its exceptional interdisciplinary approach and cutting-edge management of post-treatment complications for prostate cancer. The hospital was awarded a special mention by the Onda Foundation, a national observatory on health, for its outstanding performance in this area.
The hospital’s achievement was celebrated as part of an initiative within the Bollini azzurri network, which aims to promote the sharing of best clinical practices and inform citizens about hospitals with exemplary skills in managing post-tumor problems. The Trento hospital’s success is the result of a project that has been active within the Apss since 2018, involving close collaboration between the multi-zonal Urology operational unit and the Rehabilitation Service of the Trento Health Services Centre.
The project was born out of the necessity to offer all patients operated on for prostate cancer a comprehensive path for managing and rehabilitating any complications that may arise. Prostate cancer is currently the most frequent neoplasm in Italian males, with over 40 thousand new cases per year. In Trentino alone, there are over 400 new cases of prostate cancer reported annually.
The recognition of the Santa Chiara hospital’s efforts in this area is a testament to the dedication and expertise of its healthcare professionals in providing the best possible care for patients with prostate cancer. The hospital’s commitment to excellence in the management of post-treatment complications sets a high standard for healthcare institutions across Italy.
