Fedez Raises Alarm Over Lack of Pancreatic Enzymes
Italian rapper Fedez recently took to Instagram to raise awareness about a concerning issue affecting himself and other patients who have undergone pancreas surgery. In his post, Fedez explained that he, like many others, relies on pancreatic enzymes to be able to eat and digest food, but a shortage of the medication has left him with a dwindling supply.
The shortage, it turns out, is due to production problems and high demand for pancrelipase-based medicines, as explained by the Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa) in a note last October. The shortage is expected to last until December 2025, causing concern among patients who rely on these enzymes for their daily health and well-being.
Following Fedez’s public outcry, the Ministry of Health issued a statement clarifying that the shortage is a known issue and is independent of the regulatory activities of Aifa. The agency has provided patients and healthcare workers with information on how to handle the shortage and has allowed healthcare facilities to import similar drugs authorized abroad in the event of supply disruptions.
The lack of pancreatic enzymes is not an isolated case, as medicine shortages for various life-saving drugs have been an ongoing issue. The website of the Italian Medicines Agency lists almost 3,500 drugs that cannot be found in pharmacies for various reasons, highlighting the severity of the problem.
As the shortage of pancreatic enzymes and other crucial medications continues, it is clear that steps need to be taken to address the underlying production and distribution issues to ensure that patients have access to the medications they need for their health and well-being.
